Clogged fallopian tubes prevent many women from becoming pregnant. It is a simple procedure that our doctors can help you with.
Book an appointmentTo achieve pregnancy, whether by sexual intercourse or insemination, there must be an opening in at least one of the fallopian tubes.
At Klinikk Hausken you can check if you have a normal opening through the fallopian tubes. The examination is necessary in the case of hormone-stimulated insemination.
If there is no opening, the egg and sperm cannot meet, and a fertilization of the egg cannot take place. With impaired passage in the fallopian tubes, there will be an increased risk of ectopic pregnancy. Therefore, we recommend that you get checked if your fallopian tubes are open. The examination is a prerequisite if you want hormone-stimulated insemination. If both fallopian tubes are clogged, attempts with IVF treatment are the only possibility of getting pregnant.
Most women have open fallopian tubes, but if you have previously had abdominal inflammation with chlamydia, appendicitis, endometriosis, or other diseases that could be suspected to have led to damage to the fallopian tubes, there is an increased risk of narrow or clogged fallopian tubes. We would like to draw your attention here to the fact that asymptomatic inflammation of the lower abdomen (“mute infection”) with chlamydia can occur.
The examination is carried out in the period after menstrual bleeding has finished and before the expected time of ovulation, between the 8th and 10th day of the cycle. That way one can inseminate in the same cycle. Before the examination can be performed, a negative chlamydia sample from the cervix must be present. The chlamydia test can be done here at the clinic or at your GP.
The examination itself takes place in the gynecological rental.
Some people experience menstrual-like pain on examination. The examination is carried out without anesthesia, and the vast majority can go to work immediately after the examination. For some, it may be a good idea to take painkillers an hour before the actual examination.
After the examination, there may be some extra thin discharge and maybe some spot bleeding. We recommend that you wear a bandage after the examination. The risk of infection is minimal, but if in the days after the examination you should experience pain and fever, it is important that you consult a doctor for possible treatment. You can take painkillers, but, as a rule, it is not necessary.
If normal passage in both fallopian tubes cannot be detected, our doctor will inform you about further course. You may be recommended a peephole examination of the fallopian tubes (laparoscopy) or that you should proceed to IVF treatment.
