With 3D ultrasound, you can keep track of your pregnancy and your baby in a safe and informative way.

Many people want to see their baby before birth. This has been possible for many years with the 2D ultrasound that we offer at all our clinics. With the 3D ultrasound technology that we offer to our patients in Stavanger, pregnant women can see slightly more detailed images of the baby in the abdomen.

What is ultrasound?

Ultrasound is a medical technique used to examine the inside of the body by emitting ultrasonic waves. The waves are used to create an image of the patient's internal organs and tissues. Ultrasound technology is very useful for doctors when diagnosing medical conditions or injury. It is painless, non-invasive and has few, if any, side effects.

What is the difference between 2D and 3D?

2D ultrasound is used to create a flat image of what is being examined. 3D ultrasound creates a three-dimensional model of what is being examined. Both methods give very good results.

Week 12 ultrasound - what can you see from the child?

At week 12 of pregnancy, doctors can do an ultrasound examination to see how the fetus is developing. By this time, it is still too early to see the sex of the baby, but three-dimensional images of the fetus can already be seen, and doctors can measure the amniotic fluid and examine the organs. It is also possible to see if the fetus has any congenital malformations. From week 14, one can see the sex of the child with both ultrasound methods.

Ultrasound at week 24 of pregnancy

At week 24 of pregnancy, it is customary to do an ultrasound examination. At this time, doctors can see the sex of the child. This ultrasound can also be used to measure amniotic fluid, measure the length of the fetus, and see if there are movements from the fetus. It is also possible to see more details about the child, such as facial expressions, eyes, ears and hair.

Our medical measurements during ultrasound

While doctors do the ultrasound examination, they can also do other medical measurements. This can include measuring the neck fold of the fetus, measuring the heart rate, and checking blood flow between the placenta and the fetus. Doctors can also try to determine the weight of the fetus and measure how much fat is under the skin.

What are the advantages of 3D ultrasound?

It can help doctors diagnose some medical conditions that cannot be detected by 2D ultrasound. The 3D ultrasound give you a clearer picture of your child and detailed images of the facial features. It can also help parents feel more connected to the child, and they can gain a better understanding of the growth and development of the child.
