Egg donation — do you want to donate eggs?

Now it is approaching start-up egg donation. Work on the regulations is finished and now only the consultation process remains.

This is going to be very exciting and we can't wait to get started. We have received approval for egg banks in Oslo and Haugesund. Patients from Western Norway will donate eggs in Haugesund and the same applies to those couples who need egg donation to finally succeed in becoming parents.

Why have we established egg donation only in Oslo and Haugesund?

It's all about quality. We have invested in new equipment in Oslo and Haugesund for just this activity. In addition, we have selected two highly experienced embryologists to do the work. Vitrification of eggs, survival and pregnancies are entirely dependent on those who master the technique best also doing the job.

A lot of people want to help.

We have a lot of couples waiting for egg donation. That means efforts to recruit women who want to help other couples start in the New Year. Many of you are those of you who have already reached out and said that they want to help these couples. Those of you who have already shown interest will be invited to the New Year for guidance and a plan for how this will take place. You also have to go through a screening process to be approved as a donor.

For egg donation, the woman must undergo hormone stimulation and egg extraction as a normal IVF attempt. Of course, the costs are fully covered and compensation is also paid.

A woman can donate up to 3 times. The eggs can only be used in up to 6 families. More often than not, only one or two families will be involved. This is because it often requires many eggs to achieve a pregnancy. At any time, you can reverse the decision and destroy the eggs. The eggs that have already been fertilized cannot be destroyed. More information will be sent out on an ongoing basis.

There are several ways to conduct egg donation:

1. One can synchronize the one who donates and the one who receives. The woman who donates eggs does stimulation and egg withdrawal as a normal IVF attempt. The eggs are fertilized with the partner's sperm (recipient of egg donation) and then transfer the fresh embryo to the woman (recipient of egg donation)
2. One does the same as mentioned above in the case of the woman who donates eggs, but one does not synchronize the treatment with the one who is to receive. Instead of fresh transfer, the embryos are frozen. The woman to receive then plans a freezing test and hours the mucous membrane in against the tin and return of the embryo.
3. The third method that is approved is to recruit women who want to help. They need to undergo stimulation and egg extraction. These eggs are frozen. This is how you can build an egg bank over time. This may be the best solution in the long run, but it also takes the longest time. One cannot offer egg donation until one has built an egg bank.

We will endeavour to establish the provision as soon as we can and have already put together a dedicated egg donation group working towards establishing a good treatment provision according to the regulations. We will update the website with booking options as soon as these factors are in place.
